Who dares to tell Christ to stop talking?

A reminder to those against female clergy from George Fox:

Can’t the spirit of Christ speak in the female as well as in the male? Or is he to be limited in that respect? And who would take it on himself to ‘set the limit of the holy one of Israel’ (Psalm 78.41)? For the light is the same in the male and in the female.  And it comes from Christ, the one through whom the world itself was made. So Christ is one in all and not split up. And who dares to tell Christ to stop talking?

George Fox got it.  Why can’t the Bishop of Rome or Fulham or Ebbsfleet?  What is it with these people?  Do they think they have dominion over the Spirit?  Apparently, they do.

And don’t even get me started on their attitudes towards gay and lesbian clergy.  ‘Everyone can minister as they are given grace,’ Fox writes.  Everyone.  Christ, the Buddha, Krishna, Ghandiji—any of these and more—stood for everyone, not just a few.  They are for everyone because to be against one of God’s children is to be against all of them.  We are all in life together: let’s get on and live it!
